Why are there not more changing tables in men’s rooms?

Traditional parenting roles have evolved significantly from a time when mothers were sole or primary caretakers. Not only are more fathers receiving sole custody of their children, but some fathers are stay-at-home dads and primary caretakers of their children. You may find it surprising that under these circumstances, there are many men’s restrooms that do not have baby changing tables.

This parenting inconvenience was brought to the attention of many when a father decided to post a picture of his attempts to change his baby’s diaper while propped up on his legs. A lack of changing tables in men’s restrooms means fathers have to get creative in finding a way to get the job done, without having to lie the child on a dirty bathroom floor. The picture soon went viral on social media platforms, as people commented with their fathering struggles as well. The picture shined a light on parenting equality and the importance of hands-on fathers. Some companies have implemented changing tables in men’s rooms, and in some parts of the country, legislation requires facilities to put changing tables in all restrooms. The idea that moms are the only ones changing diapers is slowly turning to the reality that dads parent too, and need the same tools allowed to moms.

Whether you are involved in a divorce case or simply looking to file for legal separation, you may wish to speak to an attorney regarding your parental rights. An attorney can help explore your options and ensure you get everything you are entitled to.
