Defining and combating paternity fraud

Many Texan fathers do their best to love, support and protect their children. This can make handling the possibility of paternity fraud difficult. Fathers who are victims of paternity fraud may not know what options are available to them, or where to even begin when it comes to handling these emotionally complex casses.

The Spruce states that paternity fraud occurs when a man is falsely listed as a child's biological father. This can be an intentional decision on the part of the mother, or she may not be certain that the man isn't the biological father. In any case, it sets the stage for the possibility of the man being heaped with financial, emotional and mental responsibilities that shouldn't be his to bear.

Even setting aside the potential hefty toll of the monetary costs of raising a kid, the emotional trauma of learning that a child isn't his own can be even heavier. While this may not permanently damage the parental-child relationship, it could certainly change it.

Huffpost goes as far as to state that there's an epidemic of fraudulent paternity claims in the United States. DNA testing may not always help in a court case regarding child support payments, and many men don't report the situation at all. This can be for various reasons including not wanting to upset their child, or guilt.

Legally handling a situation that involves paternity fraud can be daunting and stressful. However, the first step to combating paternity fraud is therefore bringing attention to it and not just sweeping it under the rug, even though this can be difficult.
